Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a great place for newcomers and experienced mountain bikers. Outside the park are hundreds of miles of bridleways for cross country riding but on this page we share our insights on the maintained trails within the park.
The video shows SeBR team members, Olly and Dan riding different parts of the Blue and Red trails as well as one of the skills areas.
Blue Trail..........
Length: 3.0 miles
Elevation gain: 409 feet
Strava KOM: Philip Pearce, 13.10 minutes
Strava: https://www.strava.com/segments/15882131
Features: Lots of berms, rollers and small jumps
The Blue MTB trail at Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a favourite of many, for good reason. The trail is a 3 mile circuit, of which 80% is singletrack and it is well-maintained and packed with features. There are many berms (banked corners) both small and large, as well as jumps and small drops but all features can be "rolled" making the Blue suitable for first-time trail mountain bikers and advanced riders.
Red Trail..........
Length: 4.6 miles
Elevation gain: 810 feet
Strava KOM: Philip Pearce, 23.11 minutes
Strava link: https://www.strava.com/segments/15023701
Features: Lots of natural singletrack and berms. Some drops, rooty and rocky sections.
The Red MTB trail at Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a longer, more natural trail with more undulations than the Blue. It changes in character over the course of the trail, starting with short and technical ups and downs on narrow and rooty singletrack through the forest before climbing to the top of the park from where the descent is similar to the Blue on a slightly bigger scale. There is one drop (to flat) of about 80cm to be aware of. A sharp climb leads to the third section - a fast downhill with both rocks and roots to negotiate.
The Red trail offers more of a technical challenge and lends itself better to full-suspension bikes due to the rooty and rocky sections. For "analogue" (non-electrified) riders, the Red trail is also a great cardio workout with punchy climbs and short recovery times.
Light Blue Trail..........
The Light Blue Trail is situated above the Benham's Bushes car park between the two main skills areas and at the finish of the main Blue Trail. It runs parallel to the gravel road that goes up to the South Downs Way (which serves as the climb).
It is 300m long with a series of small, easy features (banked corners and rollers) that can be tackled by anyone that can ride a bike. In combination with the skills areas, it's the ideal trail to build skills and confidence before trying the Blue trail. Suitable for any children that can pedal a bike on gravel surfaces.
QECP MTB Skills Areas & Pump Track
QECP has three separate skills areas located up the road from Benham's Car Park. The smallest is suitable to the youngest children on balance bikes while the hardest introduces bigger berms, drops and "North Shore" feaures (raised timber trails).
The skills areas are free to use for all park visitors but check the QECP Facebook page for occasional closures for maintenance or coaching.
The tarmac Pump Track is right behind the Visitor Centre close to the park entrance and is for children up to 140cm tall. It is a great place to build confidence.
QECP is located on the A3, 5 miles south of Petersfield, 40 miles from the M25 interchange at Wisley and 15 miles from Portsmouth. QECP is one of the closest and easiest mountain bike trail centres to access from Southwest London, Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
The trails start right from the car park outside our rental centre which is on the South Downs Way, 25 miles from Winchester and 75 miles from Eastbourne.
